Our Friesian Stud and Broodmares
We are a Friesian stud at Yangan in south east Queensland, just under two hours from Brisbane, breeding purebred Friesians and Friesian Warmbloods from a broodmare band built to breed foals with excellent conformation, type and temperament. We are members of the Australian Friesian Horse Society, which is the Australian arm of the Dutch studbook, and the KFPS in the Netherlands, member 1051506, the Australian Friesian Warmblood Horse Society, member 857, and the Arabian Society of Australia, member 87395. Our AFWHS suffix is van Merindah.
Every mare we breed from is on this page, along with our purebred Friesian stallion Morpheus, purchased in Feb 2026, so you can see the quality of our breeding program. We breed for a kind temperament, correct conformation, type and elegance.
Our Friesian mare Kismet of Terarossa exemplifies this iconic Dutch breed. With her modern elegance, exceptional temperament and commanding presence, she combines elegance, strength and versatility in equal measure. How the breeding works
Putting a quality Friesian Warmblood mare to a purebred Friesian stallion, the resulting foal climbs closer to purebred type. A 50% mare gives a 75% foal. A 75% mare gives an 87.5% foal that looks just like a purebred. Our breeding program aims to produce foals that will mature with a strong Friesian influence so they will have the elegance and flair (and the hair) of the purebred.
That is the whole logic of our broodmare band, and it is why our highest percentage young horses come out of our highest percentage mares. Each generation gets us closer to the purebred look, with a dash of hybrid vigour.

Kismet was bred by Katrina Routson of Terarossa Lodge Friesians, we are very blessed to include this beautiful mare into our breeding program. Kismet has a very ‘wow’ presence, she is a very elegant and feminine looking mare, with a very kind and gentle temperament.

Zoe is 66% Friesian and 34% Thoroughbred out of Foxy and by AFWHS Stallion Keeyan. Zoe is a beautiful natured and kind mare, very easy for any person to handle. She has had 2 beautiful foals to Henrik OP, one of which we have retained for our breeding program.

Friesian Warmblood Mare
Louie is 75% Friesian, her dam is our Foxy and sire is Yasper van Gelder. Louie is a beautifully kind natured horse, when bred with a purebred Friesian her foals are 87.5% Friesian and look just like a purebred Friesian. Friesian Warmblood Mare
Lizzie is 50% Friesian and 50% Australian Stock Horse. She is out of ASH mare Sparkles (bred and owned by Julie Taylor) and by Yasper van Gelder. When bred with a purebred Friesian Lizzie’s foals are 75% Friesian and they are powerful, highly athletic and elegant. The ASH infusion really adds something special to the Friesian. Perlino Arabian cross Quarter Pony Mare
Jane is Perlino in colour. Perlino horses have cream coats with pink skin and blue or glass eyes, and are sometimes called pseudo-albino or cream horses. Perlino horses can be used to produce palominos, buckskins and smokey blacks (also known as black buckskins).
We purchased her as when crossed with the black Friesian, we have a 75% chance of getting a buckskin. Jane’s 2024 foal Bandit is a beautiful buckskin with lavish amounts of hair.
Our goal with Jane is to breed a smaller sized horse with colour that still exhibits the beautiful Friesian traits, but also have the refinement of face and legs that the Arabian imparts.

Friesian Warmblood Mare
Hazel is 85% Friesian, her dam is our Zoe and sire is Henrik OP - grandsire is Eise 489. She is only one of 2 fillies born by Henrik OP before he was gelded. Hazel is tall and elegant, she looks like a modern Friesian. She will be included into our breeding program in 2026 and her foals will be 92% Friesian.

Fancy is 50% Friesian and 50% Thoroughbred, she is out of a Friesian Warmblood mare, by Yasper van Gelder. She has a good kind temperament and produces a tall elegant type of foal, put to a purebred Friesian stallion she produces a 75% Friesian foal. Our stallions
Morpheus is our purebred Friesian stallion, purchased in February 2026 at 5 years of age. Morphy has a highly trainable temperament and is a kind, easy stallion to keep. We purchased him for his breeding and very low COI (Coefficient of Inbreeding). Morphy has very correct conformation and is very elegant and athletic, he will really complement the type of horse we are wanting to breed.
Morpheus is being presented at the April 2027 keuring in Queensland. For owners of inspected horses, the jury’s assessment is a significant touchstone to gain insight into the horse’s quality and its potential for breeding and the sport.

Furthermore, inspection results may to some degree influence a horse’s market value.
Henrik OP is a KFPS Friesian who has since been gelded, his sire is Eise 489 Sport Elite AAA.
Yasper van Gelder, is the basis of our broodmares, he is the sire of Louie, Lizzie and Fancy.
Django of Carcharel is the sire of our beautiful young Djisty, out of Louie.
Jolle Z. is the sire of Jane’s 2026 foal Annie RU Oakley.
Dirk T van Sessing, an imported stallion standing on a breeding permit, is the sire of Kismet’s first foal for us.

Djisty is a 2026 black filly out of Louie by Django of Carcharel, 87.5% Friesian, and she is being kept for our breeding program. Annie RU Oakley is a buckskin filly out of Calamity Jane by Jolle Z, 50% Friesian.
Due in the 2026/2027 season: Hillview Lizzie to Henrik OP on 17 October 2026, Kismet of Terarossa to Dirk T van Sessing on 5 November 2026, Hazel Ze van Merindah to Morpheus on 15 January 2027, a filly out of Foxy by Morpheus on 14 February 2027, sexed at 65 days, and Arabec Calamity Jane to Morpheus on 19 February 2027.
Keurings
None of our horses has been keuring graded. Keurings in Australia are held every two years with officials coming out from the Netherlands, and we are presenting Morpheus at the April 2027 keuring. Where is your Friesian stud?
We are at 502 Mt Sturt Rd, Yangan, in south east Queensland, just under two hours from Brisbane. We breed purebred Friesians and Friesian Warmbloods, and we are members of the Australian Friesian Horse Society and the KFPS, which is the Dutch studbook, the Australian Friesian Warmblood Horse Society and the Arabian Society of Australia.
What Friesian mares do you breed from?
We have one purebred Friesian mare, Kismet of Terarossa, and a band of Friesian Warmblood mares from 50% to 85% Friesian: Foxy, her daughters Zoe and Louie, Hillview Lizzie, Hillview Fancy and Hazel Ze van Merindah. We also have Arabec Calamity Jane, a Perlino Arabian cross Quarter Pony, registered as an Arabian Derivative, who we bought for temperament, type and colour.
What stallion do you stand?
Our purebred Friesian stallion is Morpheus. Previously we used Henrik OP, a KFPS Friesian owned by Julie Taylor, and he is the sire of several horses here including Hazel. We have also used Yasper van Gelder, Django of Carcharel, Jolle Z, an imported Ster Predicated stallion, and the imported stallion Dirk T van Sessing at stud.
Have your horses been keuring graded?
No, none of our horses has been keuring graded. We are presenting Morpheus at the April 2027 keuring. Keurings in Australia are held every two years with officials coming out from the Netherlands, so this is the first realistic opportunity for him, and we will publish whatever result he receives.
How does breeding a Warmblood mare to a purebred work?
Each generation of our horses climbs closer to the purebred type. A 50% Friesian mare put to a purebred stallion gives a 75% foal, and a 75% mare gives an 87.5% foal and an 85% mare produces a 92% Friesian that looks just like a purebred. The foundation of our breeding program is to produce quality horses of Friesian type.
